In what we discovered was our first road trip, we drove up to Seattle last weekend to participate in Conflikt, the convention for filk and filkers. It’s a smaller con in size, but not in heart; that place was non-stop. Filk circles from night ’til morning, and tons of music and awful puns.
We hosted a panel on sea shanties, which Jessica is pretty much an expert in, and taught the audience several. We closed with our own “Red Shirt’s Prayer,” an update of Tom Lewis’ “Sailor’s Prayer,” which technically makes it a star shanty.
Saturday night we performed a one-hour set, including “Rolling In The Sheep,” and just had the best time. Since the audience was made up of nerds who love jokes and wordplay, they were very attentive and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Amazing feedback from the attendees and from the event organizers. Dara Korra’ti, the music organizer for Norwescon, was really excited for our appearance there in April, and so are we.
We brought more of the album sample CDs with us, and people really seemed excited to take home our music, so we’re even more excited about the new album, which now has a name and a cover artist…
But more on that at a later date.
Thank you to the friendly filk folk of Conflikt 8, and we’ll see you again soon!
