The TARDIS Room show is now in the history books, and rightly so. Even before our 6:30 load-in time there were folks at the North Portland venue, playing games and generally getting ready for the evening’s entertainment.
Everyone got a chance to soundcheck (which, if you’re not a musician, is a rare gift) and we unveiled our custom soundcheck song. All the bands got to hang out with each other beforehand, playing games provided by Cloud Cap Games. A merch area was set up, and we offered a 5-song CD sampler of pre-mastered tracks from our upcoming album. We also met musicians from local band Going Viral and Seattle’s The Pangalacticats, who made a special trip to Portland for this show(!).
Our set was first, and it was a blast to play for a packed house. If you haven’t been to the TARDIS Room, it’s a collection of five rooms strung together, so the room with the stage was totally full. We’ve never played for people standing rightupnexttothestage before, and it was thrilling. Our new Catan-themed parody “Rolling In The Sheep” went over pretty well, and seeing a whole room doing Kermit Flail to “Down At Ragnarok”? Priceless.
The Doubleclicks were, of course, a lot of fun. It was great to see audience members singing along to all the songs and waving hands to “Ennui.” Never a bad show from those two.
We’d never seen a Thundering Asteroids! show, but we’ll definitely make time to do that now. Nerdy lyrics and punk rock music go together like Link and the “this” sword. They also had the Doubleclicks on stage for some collaborations, including “Love You Like A Burrito,” which is super-energetic with a full band behind it.
We met a lot of people, made new fans and new friends, and we hope we’ll do more of these combined shows in the future. Portland, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
