When a car crashes into your store, so does the community.
If you wanted proof that the gaming/nerd community was a tight one, you didn’t need to look any further than Red Castle Games on Sunday. After sustaining damage from a drunk driver smashing into their store, the SE Portland shop held a fundraiser to help with the damages not covered by their insurance.
In addition to our performance, there was a mountain of fantastic raffle prizes, a “scratched and smashed” game sale, and a chance to win a brick from the smashed wall. The winner of the “best comeback” quote got the offending car’s license plate. That’s a really great way to laugh at adversity!
We got to play for the first time with our brand-new PA system, and it was flawless. We’re now fully kitted out with PA and mics for everyone, so we can put music in your ears from anywhere that has electricity — watch out!
We met a lot of new people and made some new fans, which is always rewarding, but even better is the fundraiser collected over THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS for Red Castle Games.
Thanks to everyone who came out or contributed from home, and to Sarah Gulde for masterminding the whole affair. Nerds unite for nerds!
